THE NEW YORK STATE LITERARY CENTER (NYSLC)

Research and document the elements of a successful arts partnership based upon the success of Arts, Literacy, and The Classroom Community (ALCC):

Though there is a wealth of anecdotal evidence suggesting the arts have a significant role in the criminal justice system, in what ways does arts education make a difference?

What is the evidence of the contributions of arts education to learning and rehabilitation in a correctional setting?

What is necessary and what must be in place for an arts partnership in a criminal justice facility?

What does an arts organization need to know about the criminal justice system?

Who should be involved in an arts partnership from the educational provider and within the correctional facility?

What experience and training are necessary for artists to work with incarcerated adolescents?

How does an arts partnership in a jail or correctional setting differ?

What do arts organizations and artists need to know to initiate and sustain a successful partnership?
